Autopsy shows heart damages
By COURTNEY MARTIN, LTN Staff Writer
March 22, 2002 - A Cleveland County man found dead on Gaston Street early Tuesday may have died from natural causes.
An autopsy performed Wednesday in Winston-Salem found no external cause for the death of Roy Allen Wright, 56, of Lawndale, according to Lincolnton
police. It did find damages to the heart consistent with a heart attack.
The investigation is not complete, however, until a toxicology test is finished. The test, which will look for drugs and other substances in Wright’s body,
will take anywhere from a week to a month to complete, said Det. Dean Abernathy.
Wright was found dead around 6 a.m. Tuesday, lying near a railroad switch box between Mohican Mills and Gaston Street.
According to officers, Wright had moved in with his mother in Lincolnton in early March.
A bag carrying items purchased at World Wide Imports was found near the body. Authorities speculate that Wright, who was known to enjoy walking, was returning
to his mother’s home from World Wide Imports.
