March 29, 2002 - Physicians are literally getting a better look at patients at Lincoln Medical Center.
The hospital just purchased a $350,000 Siemens E-Cam nuclear medicine camera.
The camera can perform heart, bone, liver and gallbladder scans, according to John Shelton, director of LMC’s imagining department.

March 29, 2002 - The Lincoln County School Board will remain at six members until late this year, board
members voted Wednesday night.
Board members have the option to replace Jack Garner, who resigned last week but voted four-to-one to let the vacancy be filled during November’s general
election.

EMS worker fired, supervisor demoted

March 29, 2002 - A Lincoln County EMS employee has been fired and a supervisor demoted following an
investigation into a March 9 wreck on N.C. 150 in Crouse.
Accident victim Crystal Palmer was reported dead by an EMS crew while still trapped inside her Jeep Cherokee. The wreckage was peeled away from her in a
90-minute effort and Palmer was found to be alive. She was airlifted to Charlotte’s Carolinas Medical Center and is now receiving rehabilitation services at a nursing home.

board members learned Wednesday night.
A group of future students selected the colors.

Juan Rojo Vega, 26, who was living off Roseland Drive in Lincolnton, was shot several times while in his vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Friday.

March 27, 2002 - A Tuesday night spelling bee raised almost $10,000 for the Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of
Commerce and the county’s Public Education Foundation.
Spellers from 34 corporate, school and civic teams competed. Enunciator Gaye Howard started easy with words like “unnerved.” As the night went on,
the words got more difficult.

March 25, 2002 - A Lincoln County man was fatally shot in the parking lot of Winn-Dixie
Marketplace on N.C. 27 West Friday night.
A man identified as Juan Rojo Vega, 26, was shot about four times around 8:30 p.m. while in his Nissan Pathfinder.
Vega was taken to Lincoln Medical Center and pronounced dead upon arrival.

March 25, 2002 - Siblings Winnie Hoffman, Ray Hoffman and Ruth Hoffman Rhyne say they remember their
mother’s admonishments to respect the simple graveyard a few miles from their Walker Branch Road homeplace.
Today, whether the shallow holes are even graves is being called into question. Developers Troy Motz and Kenneth Tucker hope to construct a 24-home community
at the site. The land in question makes up a small portion of the tract.

March 22, 2002 - Lincoln County United Way celebrated meeting its fund-raising goal victory Wednesday.
The 2001 campaign exceeded its goal by 16 percent, raising $435,195.
“It was a really great effort by all concerned,” campaign Chairman Seth Haney told supporters and recipient agencies during an annual meeting and luncheon at
Verdict Ridge Golf and Country Club.

March 22, 2002 - Developers who want to build mobile home subdivisions will have to get permission from Lincoln County
Commissioners if the planning board has its way.
Planning board members reached that consensus during a work session though a formal vote is delayed until that board’s April 8 meeting. Before the matter
becomes law, commissioner will have to vote on it April 22.

March 22, 2002 - A West Lincoln Middle School teacher known and respected by generations of Lincoln County students died Wednesday morn- ing.
Zenius “Buck” Dellinger, 51, of 1869 Thornhill Lane, was mourned by students and teachers as the news spread through the middle and high school student
bodies of West Lincoln. Counselors were dispatched to the middle school and the flag was lowered to half-mast.

March 22, 2002 - A Cleveland County man found dead on Gaston Street early Tuesday may have died from
natural causes.
An autopsy performed Wednesday in Winston-Salem found no external cause for the death of Roy Allen Wright, 56, of Lawndale, according to Lincolnton
police. It did find damages to the heart consistent with a heart attack.

Street early Tuesday.
The body of Roy Allen Wright, 56, formerly of Lawndale in Cleveland County, was found dead around 6 a.m. Tuesday.
A passing motorist spotted the body lying near a railroad switch box between Mohican Mills and Gaston Street.

thanks to the generosity of 235 LINC Meals volunteer drivers.
They were honored Tuesday during a luncheon at the Citizens Center.
“They’re special volunteers with one purpose, to make sure nobody misses a meal,” said Rev. Dale Pederson, a member of the LINC ministry group.

Awareness Week.

Assistants say the new rule is not fair.

January 2006 to get two years of college education or pass the test.

wait until July.
Friday, DSS began putting applicants on a waiting list. Families currently receiving the assistance will not be affected.

Republican Darrell Harkey filed to run for the post Thursday.

Judge dismisses actions against LMC

March 1, 2002 - A Lincoln County Superior Court judge has dismissed four of the seven actions filed by
North State Medical Group in a lawsuit against Lincoln Medical Center.
Judge Richard D. Boner filed his order Feb. 20, agreeing with the defendant’s motions to dismiss several parts of the lawsuit.

New club house to open in April

March 1, 2002 - Lincoln Country Club members will be using a new 11,000-square-foot club
house by April.
Board members call the $1.2 million facility “first class.”
The million brick clubhouse will feature a dining/banquet room and club limited to members. Non-members will be able to reserve the banquet
facility for weddings and other events. Some civic clubs may also meet there. The new golf pro shop and snack bar will be open to the public.
