Burning ban withdrawn
By ALICE SMITH, LTN Staff Writer
July 26, 2002 - An outdoor burning ban which was put into effect Monday was lifted Thursday due to the recent rainfall.
The burning ban was enacted by the Lincoln County Fire Marshal’s Office to reduce the chance of using the area’s water supply to fight forest fires. The
ban would have headed off problems before they started.
The rain has provided the county with a sufficient amount of water.
And even though the burning ban has been lifted, Futrell asks that people still be extra careful.
Before starting a fire, a permit must be obtained. The permit’s rules and regulations should be followed closely.
Stay with the fire until it is out, and have a garden hose handy for emergencies.
Futrell said citations will be issued if a fire gets out of hand.
If the weather changes and things dry up again, Futrell said, the ban will be put back into effect.
As long as things stay wet, the ban will remain lifted.
Voluntary water conservation implemented Monday is still in effect, County Fire Marshall Mike Futrell said.
Residents are still asked to cut back water consumption by taking shorter showers, repairing leaks and watering lawns less.
