Midwest state track results; Lily Tallent in top five

West Lincoln's Lily Tallent earned top five finishes in two events Friday at the state 2A girls track and field championships.

In the event at N.C. State University, Tallent, a junior, finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 34 feet, 6.5 inches and placed fifth in the discus with a toss of 108 feet, 5 inches. The winning distance in the discus was 117 feet, 3 inches, turned in by Monroe's Diana Rahming.

Two Lincolnton athletes also competed at the state meet. Ray Conley placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 8.5 inches, and Luis Soto earned 10th place in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:40.75.
