Sigmon named MVP of SoCon tournament

Published May 26, 2003

Charleston, S.C.—Former Lincolnton High School star Brian Sigmon earned tournament MVP honors as Western Carolina beat Georgia Southern 6-5 in 11 innings to win its ninth Southern Conference baseball tournament championship Sunday evening at Riley Park.

Sigmon went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Catamounts (41-19)  to the title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. This marks WCU’s 10th NCAA appearance and first since 1997.

For the tournament, Sigmon batted .400 (4-for-10) with four RBI. Sigmon is a junior catcher for the Catamounts.
