Charleston, S.C.—Former Lincolnton High School star Brian Sigmon earned tournament MVP honors as Western Carolina beat Georgia Southern 6-5 in 11 innings to win its ninth Southern Conference baseball tournament
championship Sunday evening at Riley Park.
Sigmon went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Catamounts (41-19) to the title and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. This marks WCU’s 10th NCAA appearance and first
since 1997.
For the tournament, Sigmon batted .400 (4-for-10) with four RBI. Sigmon is a junior catcher for the Catamounts.
