Denver’s late rally beats Paw Creek

TERRANCE THOMAS, LTN Sports Writer

June 19, 2002 - DENVER — Denver post 455 trailed Paw Creek 9-4 Tuesday going into the bottom of the seventh inning.

It didn’t look good for the home team.

But the bats came alive.

Denver scored two in that seventh then five more in the eight to stun Paw Creek 11-10.

The big hit of the game was Luis Arce’s three-run double in the eighth. Arce later scored on David Rue’s hit.

“It was a good comeback,” said Post 455 coach Bruce Bolick. “We didn’t play well. We threw a lot of bases of balls. In there. But it was a good comeback win. It shows we never give up.”

Arce had three hits and drove in four runs. Josh Hamby and David Rue both had a pair of hits.

Denver upped its record to 8-7. Thomas Abernathy started but randall Chambersgot the win.

Post 455 fell to Monroe 11-1 Monday night. Matt McIntosh doubled in the team’s only run in that game

Denver plays at home against Pineville Thursday and Huntersville Friday before traveling to Newell Saturday and Paw Creek Sunday.

Denver closes out the regular season at home Monday against Charlotte Post 262.

“We’re playing pretty well,” Bolick said about his bunch. “Arce is having a great year. Michael and David Rue are playing well. Josh Hamby and Charlie Stroup are hard workers. Lee Woody is hitting the ball well. We’re getting good pitching from Brandon Scott and Randall Chambers. Justin Keever has a sore back.”

Arce has been blazing. He drove in three runs Monday against Newell and hit a homer versus the Gaston Braves on Friday.
