September 4, 2002 - DENVER — The East Lincoln girls tennis team hopes to be a force in the Big South Conference this fall.
So far the Lady Mustangs are taking care of business. They defeated West Lincoln 7-2 and Newton-Conover 7-2 before losing to Lincolnton.

Lincolnton JV football team defeated North Gaston 26-14 Thursday at home.
Demory Williams was exceptional with two punt returns for touchdowns and he also scored on a 55-yard hitch pass from quarterback Edwin Barber.

September 9, 2002 - DALLAS — Friday's North-Gaston Lincolnton football game offered further proof of the
old sports adage: The only numbers that really count are the ones on the scoreboard.
The host Wildcats piled up 474 yards of offense to only 281 for the Wolves, but all North Gaston had to show for those gaudy numbers was another loss.

Pumpkin Center team plays first game ever

September 9, 2002 - The Pumpkin Center Panthers midget team won the first game it played in its existence
on Saturday by a score of 14-6 over the Mooresville Cougars. Chad Arndt and Jordan Scott scored TDs and Trey Painter added a two-point conversion. Painter also made a game-saving tackle in the second half. Jeff
Holmes, Coty McCabe and Michael Nichols played well on defense. Nichols had a fumble recovery late that led to the winning score.

LHS girls tennis team gets the best of West

September 11, 2002 - Andrea Stroup won her match over Carrie Freeman 6-2, 7-5 to
propel the Lady Wolves to a 9-0 win over West Lincoln Tuesday at Lincolnton.
LHS players all won. No. 2 Fallon Heavner 6-2, 6-0 over Brittany Seagle, No. 3 Caitlin Andrews defeated Brittany Godfrey 6-1, 6-2.

West Lincoln Volleyball
West Lincoln varsity and J.V. volleyball teams both beat Bandys Tuesday.
The varsity team swept the Lady Trojans 17-15, 15-5 and 15-13. In Game 2, Lauren Mosteller served 13 of the 15 points. At one point she had eight
consecutive points. She had four aces and two that wasn’t returned in that spurt.

East Lincoln: The Lady Mustangs improved to 5-0 in conference play by beating previously undefeated East Gaston Thursday.
They won in three games, 15-8, 15-4 and 16-14. The JV won as well, 15-4, 15-2. The JV is also 5-0.

The Lady Wolves defeated conference foe Bunker Hill 9-0 Tuesday at home.
Lincolnton had absolutely no problem with the Lady Bears. All the singles players (Andrea Stroup,
Fallon Heavner, Caitlin Andrews, Shawn Kindley, Sarah Long, and Kristen Kinney all won 6-0, 6-0.

West Lincoln.

forecasters Mike Powell and David Keever will rank the top twelve high school football teams in our coverage area.
That area will include Lincoln, Catawba, Gaston, Cleveland and Rutherford counties. The poll is based on win-loss record, head to head games, strength of schedule, and how the team should do in its own classification. The poll will run each week, and should continue until the last area team has finished its season completely.

September 30, 2002 - Future opponents of Lincolnton should beware.
The Wolves seem to be playing their best football in the second quarter of games.
It happened again Friday night in the Midwestern 2A Conference opener against West Lincoln. The Wolves put 20 points on the scoreboard in the
second quarter on their way to a 40-12 victory on a wet field at Lincolnton Memorial Stadium.
