EL volleyball team host match in playoffs Tuesday

East Lincoln volleyball is taking it to a higher level.

The Lady Mustangs will host the first round of the state 3-A playoffs at home Tuesday.

The opponent will be the South Western Foothills No. 2 team, which more than likely will be Kings Mountain.

East Lincoln (16-1) went undefeated during the regular season in the Big South Conference. Then the Lady Mustangs won the conference tournament.

 

LHS tennis individuals fare well at regional

Lady Wolves doubles team of Andrea Stroup-Caitlin Andrews won all three matches at the 2-A Regionals Friday and Saturday and advanced the to state finals.

Stroup-Andrews defeated other doubles from Shelby, Brevard and Wilkes Central but lost to another team from Shelby in the regional finals. The Stroup-Abdrews will still make state.

 Others did well but didn’t advance. Singles players Oksana Maksimiv lost to Shelby player and Fallon Heavner won first round match against a North Henderson opponent but lost to a Newton-Conover player in second round.

The doubles team of  Shaun Kindley-Alicia Harrill lost to a Shelby team in the first round. That Shelby team won the regional.

“I thought we made a good showing in the tournament,” said LHS coach Chris Hoffman. “I’m proud of the way we play.”

As for as the team in whole, LHS will play in the second round of the dual match playoffs Tuesday at Salisbury.

 

Youth Basketball Registration

The Lincolnton-Lincoln County Parks and Recreation Department is now taking registration for the youth basketball leagues for boys and girl grades 2-12.

Register at the recreation office at Betty G. Ross Park, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 6 until 9. Cost is $20. Pre-season instructional clinics will begin on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame induction tickets for sale

Tickets for the inaugural induction banquet of the Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame may be purchased from any board member, at Alray Tire, at Lincoln Athletics, Cloninger Trophy in Denver, or at the Betty Ross Recreation Center.

The banquet is Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Lincolnton Citizens Center.

 

Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Golf Classic

The Denver/Lake Norman Rotary Golf Classic will be held Oct. 29 at Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club in Denver.

The proceeds will go towards the athletic facilities at East Lincoln High School.

Entry fees are $75 for an individual or $325 for a four-player team, which includes two cart signs. Tee, fairway and green sponsorships are $100 each. Corporate ($550) and Benefactor ($1,000) sponsor-ships are also available.

This will be four-player captain’s choice tournament with a shotgun start at 11:30. A bag/box lunch will be provided at check in and dinner will be provided at the conclusion.

Prizes will be awarded for hole-in-one, closest to the pin, longest drive and to the top three teams.

2001 Kevin Millwood Yellowjacket Baseball Camp

The camp this year will be held at the Bessemer City High School on the baseball field December 8 and 9.

Times will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday with an autograph session afterwards, and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Cost is $60 pre-register, $65 day of camp, $45 each additional family member.
