Lincolnton girls tennis win conference title
LHS Lady Wolves clinched their second Midwest Conference regular season title in the last three years.
They improved to 6-0 to go undefeated in league play. They did it with 9-0 wins over Bandys and East
Rutherford.

For the second straight season the Lincolnton Middle School went undefeated in soccer. They are 23-0 in that span..

Lincolnton and West Lincoln competed in the United Way cross country meet at Newton Wednesday against
21 boys teams (135 runners). East Rowan won the met and had three runners to make the top ten.

Mustangs get big league win

October 7, 2002 - DENVER — East Lincoln made big plays to beat a big boy in its conference.
The Mustangs ran back a kickoff, threw two TD passes and recovered two fumbles late to stun Forestview 35-21 Friday.
East Lincoln was picked to finish last in the league by conference coaches. Forestview was near the top.

October 7, 2002 - After watching Roy Gomez kick in practice and in games, Lincolnton coach
Scott Cloninger knew the junior place-kicker’s strong right leg would win a game some day.
Well, Gomez’s chance for hero status came on Homecoming night in a do-or-die situation against the upset-minded Chase Trojans.

October 7, 2002 - VALE — West Lincoln play Bunker Hill tough, but still couldn’t get the victory in a 17-8 loss.
Both teams went scoreless in the first quarter but the visiting Bears scored twice in the second quarter to lead 10-0.

October 9, 2002 - VALE — It was Senior Night for the West Lincoln volleyball team
Tuesday. The seniors were honored before the game. The seniors started the game.
They used their experience and leadership to help the Lady Rebels sweep East Rutherford in three games.

October 9, 2002 - Buddy Shull, Harold Kester, Darren Williams and Wes Lovelace all lashed out three hits to lead Franklin Masonry to a
17-16 win over PTI-Amcor in the Lincolnton/Lincoln Recreation fall softball championship game last week. Alan and Wes Lovelace both hit homers in the game. PTI-Amcor's Dennie Hoover went 4-for-4

East Lincoln girls volleyball teams win
The East Lincoln varsity team defeated East Gaston 15-12, 2-15, 15-9 15-10. Clarissa Stull and Mallory Barrick led the way with 23 hits each.
East improved to 10-1 in conference play. The Lady Mustangs wil play at South Thursday.

October 11, 2002 - The Lady Wolves Tennis team wins Midwest 2-A Conference Tournament, and
qualify all four entries to the West 2-A Regional Tournament.
Head coach Chris Hoffman was pleased about his team played.

Kristen Kinney helped the Lincolnton tennis team win the Midwest 2-A Conference tournament. She qualified for the regionals in singles.

weighing 10 pounds, 15 ounces.
He earned $5,742 and 300 points for the win at the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Carolina Division season finale. October 14, 2002 - Newton-Conover compiled over 300 yards and five touchdowns of
offense to beat West Lincoln 34-7 Friday night.
Newton, considered one of the top teams in the Midwest Conference this season, didn’t waste anytime with the Rebels scoring with ease
jumped out to a 28-0 lead a to halftime and cruised to victory.

A Lincoln County man hit a hole in one on Sunday at Briarcreek Golf Club in Long Shoals.
It took Tim Bolick 40 years to get one but he finally did it at the Par 3 Hole No. 7. He did it with a seven iron.

The real score was Shelby 23 plus West Lincoln mistakes 34, Rebels 0.
The Rebels shot themselves in the foot by making a slew of physical and mental errors.

October 23, 2002 - VALE — The Lincolnton Boys Team for the sixth straight year won the
Lincoln County Meet, Caldwell Nixon Memorial Race at West Lincoln High School. LHS won with a score of with a score of 25, West 49, and East 60.
For the girls, the East Lincoln High School team won for the second straight year with a score of 34, West 38, and LHS 55.

Central by a 8-1 score Tuesday.
LHS (11-4) is eliminated from the dual team state playoffs. Wilkes Central, 18-0 moves on to the Quarterfinals.

October 25, 2002 - The Lincolnton junior varsity football team battled toe-to-toe with
Shelby, the conference leader, only to fall in the end.
The final score Thursday night at Lincolnton Memorial Stadium was 14-0.
Shelby scored in the second quarter on Patrick Tate’s sweep to go up 6-0.

The Golden Lions got 100 yards rushing from Marquitt Jones and touchdowns from Tavarus Jolley and Zakee Briscoe to beat the Wolves 14-3 Friday night.
It was a cool, rainy night, that caused sloppy conditions. The play of both teams in the first half reflected the weather — sloppy.
